Day 2 test

You will need to take a COVID-19 test on or before day 2 of your quarantine period. The day of arrival in England will be treated as day zero. This first test is designed to help identify any potentially harmful variants of COVID-19 at the earliest opportunity.

Day 8 test

You need to take a COVID-19 test on or after day 8, unless you got a positive result from your day 2 test.

If you get a positive test result from your day 8 test you will need to quarantine until day 19. Your household will also need to quarantine until day 19.

Can I leave my quarantine location to have my Covid test done at your Medical Practice?

Yes you are allowed to leave your quarantine location, as long as you follow social distancing guidelines.  You must return to your quarantine location as soon as this is complete.

Can I book the day 2 test for when I land and go straight to the appointment?

Yes, you can.  Please allow enough time from landing to get to the appointment.

How long do the results take to come back?

Results will be back within 48 hours via email for Day 2 and Day 8 Tests.

How do I get my results?

Your results will be emailed to the email address you used when you booked your appointment.

What happens if I test positive?

If you get a positive result from your day 2 test, you must quarantine for 10 days beginning the day after the test was taken (this means until day 13). Your household will also need to quarantine until day 13. If you get a positive result from your day 2 test, you do not need to take a test on day 8. If you get a positive test result from your day 8 test you will need to quarantine until day 19. Your household will also need to quarantine until day 19. You must comply with all current government guidelines on quarantining.

When can I leave quarantine?

You will not be able to leave quarantine until you have received a negative result from your Day 8 test and quarantined for full 10 days. If you test positive for either the Day 2 or Day 8 test, you must quarantine for a further 10 days from the day after you took the test – you will receive further advice alongside your test results. Please see further information on the government website

You can opt to leave quarantine early through the Test to Release programme, by having a negative coronavirus PCR test taken on or after Day 5 of your quarantine. You can book a Test to Release test through our website, by clicking here.

Even if you test negative through Test to Release and finish your quarantine early, you still need to take your Day 8 test.
